On the fence about getting a facial? First facial appointment approaching? Here are the what's and why's of getting facials at SkinQ.

Choosing the right facial treatment for your skin

What is a facial?

Facials treat specific skin concerns, such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, fine lines & wrinkles, etc., but they are also great for someone with normal skin, as well. One of the bonus benefits of a facial treatment is that they’re incredibly relaxing. Facials are performed by professional estheticians, normally in a day spa type setting. At SkinQ, our studio is designed to create a 1-on-1, personalized experience with the esthetician. The most common formula used during a treatment includes: steam, exfoliation, extractions, serums, masks, and creams. The end result is clearer, brighter, more hydrated skin.

What type of facial do I pick?

At SkinQ, we recommend that our new/first-time clients sign up for our most popular treatment, the Signature Facial. With this treatment, you get a thorough consultation, as well as an advanced treatment to target your specific skin concerns. The beauty about our facial menu is that we take the guess-work out. As part of our Signature and Deluxe facials, our expert estheticians will carefully examine and analyze the current condition of your skin and provide recommendations for the advanced treatment options that are most suited for your unique and beautiful face.

Preparing for your facial

What should I wear to my appointment?

You can wear whatever you’d like to your facial! We’ll have you change out of your clothes and into a facial gown, as well as get under the covers of our treatment bed. If you’re a male, then we’ll just have you remove your shirt. We prefer that clients come to their appointments not wearing mascara or any eye makeup, but if that’s not possible, no worries. We can remove it for you.

What’s going to happen during the facial?

Preparation

Your esthetician will leave the room as you’re changing into your facial gown. When they return, they will go over your consultation form and discuss any concerns or questions that you may have.

The treatment

The treatment will start with your esthetician cleansing your skin. Next comes a skin analysis. This is where the esthetician will look closely at your skin under a magnifying lamp to determine your skin type, which will determine the type of treatment and products they will use. After your skin type is established, your provider will turn on a facial steamer and position it to safely hit your face. Steam opens up your pores and preps your skin for extractions. During this time the esthetician will perform a neck and shoulder massage. When you’re done steaming, it’s time for extractions. This is when your pores are cleansed manually; however, they can also be done with a small tool.

Facial massage and finishing products

After the extractions, it’s time to relax with a facial massage, followed by a facial mask, and then the finishing products - serums, moisturizer, and SPF. When the treatment is finished, your esthetician will go over everything they just did, answer your questions, and recommend home care products (one of the most important things).

Maintain your post-facial skin at home

Why it's important to use good products at home

We like to say, “getting a facial is like going to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned. You don’t go to the dentist, and then go home and don’t brush your teeth until your next appointment.” It’s the same with a facial.

High quality products can greatly improve your skin’s condition

Getting and sticking with a good, high quality skincare routine is more than half of the battle when it comes to achieving the skin that you want. And by “high quality” we mean products that contain active ingredients, not products that you can get at Walgreens. This is so important!

We know that skincare products can be expensive, but you need to think of it as an investment for yourself to achieve your healthiest skin, and we assume that’s one of the main reasons that you’re coming in for a facial, right? When you buy products that are over the counter, frankly, you’re wasting your money.

Normally, those products don’t contain active ingredients, so using them is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of time. Not to mention, you won’t get the results you want, which normally leads to a broken heart. The products that we carry at SkinQ are so active that you only need to apply a small amount to get the desired results, so your products will last longer. Score!
